WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE SINGLE ON Valentine’s Day
In the weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day you were fine with being single, right? Then it happens. You’re flipping through a magazine or maybe passing a store’s window display full of “the perfect gifts” that say, "I love you." At first you roll your eyes and keep it moving, right?
However after passing five more store fronts, or seeing all kinds of adds in the paper celebrating the holiday of love, you begin to feel like you’ve been left out of the party. Do you have someone special to spend your Valentine's Day with?
Well I'm single and have been thinking about what are the pluses about being single on V-day.
1. I can go hang out with other single friends (dinner, drinks or whatever) not spending more money then it would cost to treat myself and stay out all night without feeling guilty.
2. I can shop for myself. You know the day of flowers and a box of candy is gone, and V-day shopping can be exspensive. So I have thought of a few DVD's and CD's that I don't have, or HELL I can get myself another Ipod or digital camera.
3. Since I don't have anyone special, I've thought of at least three people I can send a V-day card to, and it will be a total surprise to them, you know "makes me look like the better man, and I thougth about you on this special day".
4. My back up plan. If I don't go out, its always cheaper to at least know how to log on to the Internet. Instead of spending money on gifts and a night out, on February 14, I can PLAY that "Computer Love" thang! LOL, it's SAFE!!!!
5. I remember that "SHIT , I'M HAPPY BEING SINGLE FOR NOW, and I can live with that.
What are your thoughts?

VD also stands for venereal disease...*LOL*.

Seriously though, I've been single for the last six or so Valentine's. I just ignore the hype and buy myself some Valentine cookies after the holiday...you know that's when it's 50% off...*LOL*.

valentine's has always been a weird day to me. i'm not the overly emotional type, so i always saw this as a commercial holiday only to benefit hallmark and the like. my last relationship didn't end that well either tho, so maybe i'm bitter.

i think its a lame date, love should be celebrated throughout the year, its just a consumer scam, still 50% off chocolates seems like a sweeeeeeet deal

some of my friends and i recognize single's awareness day.

at first when we came up with SA, it was because (and i admit) we were somewhat bitter.

i mean this is the one day of the year (other than x-mas) when your being single is almost thrown in your face.

its like, if you do not have anyone then you are NOTHING! (LOL, maybe that is a bit much, but ya know what i mean).

but now SA is just a great time for us to chill, have fun, talk, drink, do whatever and not be concerned with or thinking entirely too much about love, sig others, etc!

so HAPPY SINGLE'S AWARENESS DAY to all!

I agree with Ruben..... a couple of Bombay Sapphire Martini's....
a box of Godiva chocolates, is there anything better?

Of course there is, but until MR. WRONG turns into MR. RIGHT, that will have to do!

BTW... WELCOME BACK!

First of all, the V-day is just another day. If you feel bad about being single on any given day, so go fix it. If you're truly cool with it, you'll be fine on the V-day just as well. Just stop fooling yourself and go for what you really want. Wallowing in self-pity is about the least productive/enjoyable pastime you can think of.

Another point, if your happiness really entirely depends on another person, then it's a very flaky kind of happiness, the kind that is bound for misery, once something goes wrong between you and that person. You need to be first happy on your own and then share that, not hope that someone will come and make you happy.

That's what I've come to realize for myself.

:o)
